Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Hadron Physics and Detector R&D at University of Bonn

The University of Bonn is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join Prof. Peter Hurck's group in the Helmholtz-Institut für Strahlen- und Kernphysik. The group specializes in experimental hadron physics, with a focus on hadron spectroscopy and the construction of the new INSIGHT experiment at the ELSA electron accelerator. The successful candidate will play a central role in building and upgrading key detector components, including the photon tagging detector, and will contribute to the development and implementation of beam polarimetry and luminosity measurements. The group is also involved in international collaborations such as AMBER at CERN and GlueX at Jefferson Lab. The position is full-time, initially for three years, and is funded according to TV-L pay grade 13. The role offers access to state-of-the-art laboratories and instruments for detector fabrication at the Research and Technology Centre for Detector Physics. Additional benefits include occupational pension (VBL), university sports, and excellent public transport access. The position is integrated into the Cluster of Excellence Color meets Flavor, providing a vibrant research environment. Applicants must have a PhD in physics or a related field, with experience in detector design and setup. Expertise in plastic scintillators for ultra-fast timing signals, pixel detectors, and/or read-out electronics is highly desirable. Good English skills and a collaborative, self-motivated attitude are required. The position also involves teaching four course units per week in seminars, lab courses, or project groups. The University of Bonn is committed to diversity and equal opportunity, encouraging applications from women and individuals with disabilities. The application deadline is March 15, 2026. For more information and to apply, contact Prof. Peter Hurck at [email protected] or visit the official job posting.
