PhD Position in Neuroscience: Hippocampal Integration of Olfactory and Spatial Signals (Germany)
A DFG-funded PhD position in Neuroscience is available at the University Hospital Bonn and ENI-G Göttingen, Germany, under the dual supervision of Prof. Tobias Ackels and Dr. Oliver Barnstedt. The research project focuses on the hippocampal integration of olfactory and spatial signals in goal-directed navigation, utilizing advanced techniques such as dual-colour miniscope calcium imaging, optogenetics, and mouse behaviour analysis. This opportunity offers cutting-edge training and affiliation with the Bonn International Graduate School (BIGS).
Applicants should have a Master’s degree in neuroscience, biology, physics, engineering, or a related field. Experience in in vivo neuroscience and mouse behaviour is preferred, along with strong quantitative skills in Python or MATLAB and excellent English proficiency. The position is funded for three years with a German TV-L E13 (65%) salary and benefits.
To apply, candidates should prepare a single PDF containing a cover letter, CV, and contact details for two referees, and email it to [email protected] by January 31, 2026. For more information about the lab and research, visit
