About this position

This PhD opportunity at Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, within the MuSkLE Graduate School, focuses on skeletal muscle research, specifically exertional heat stroke, ion channel dysfunction, and advanced techniques such as calcium imaging, physiology, histology, and multi-scale muscle biology. The project is supervised by Sylvie Bidault-Ducreux (CarMeN lab, IRIS team) and Julien Fauré (Grenoble Institut Neurosciences), offering an interdisciplinary environment at the interface of cell biology, muscle physiology, and pathophysiology.

The MuSkLE Graduate+ program is a prestigious, interdisciplinary doctoral initiative supported by the French National Research Agency and the Investments Program #3 / France 2030. It brings together four French higher education institutions and offers 13 PhD projects this year, with scholarships for international students and mobility opportunities. The program emphasizes research excellence, international collaboration, and immersion in cutting-edge musculoskeletal science.

Eligibility requires being a foreign student (dual citizenship accepted) and holding a Master’s degree in a related field before the PhD start. Applicants must submit a comprehensive application including recommendation letters, CV, transcripts, abstracts of previous work, motivation letter, proof of English proficiency, and ID. Selection is based on academic excellence, research experience, motivation, and alignment with professional goals. The scholarship provides a gross salary of €2100/month for three years (June 2026–May 2029).

Applications are open from January 23, 2026, with a deadline of March 30, 2026. The process includes a remote oral presentation for shortlisted candidates, with final decisions announced in late May.
