Postdoctoral Fellowship in Metabolism and Developmental Programming – Deng Lab, Stockholm University Stockholm University in Sweden

The Department of Molecular Biosciences, The Wenner-Gren Institute at Stockholm University, is offering a postdoctoral fellowship in the Group Deng, led by Professor Qiaolin Deng. The research focuses on understanding how maternal metabolic disorders, such as diabetes, influence the future cardiometabolic health of offspring. The successful candidate will investigate early-life programming of metabolism using both mouse models and longitudinal human cohorts.

The project integrates advanced technologies, including single-cell and spatial genomics, to identify molecular responders to maternal metabolic conditions that coordinate organ development and program future metabolic function. The research aims to uncover the mechanisms of epigenetic inheritance and developmental origins of health and disease (DOHaD), with a particular focus on how parental health and environmental factors shape disease risk across generations.

Group Deng is a pioneer in applying single-cell RNA sequencing and other state-of-the-art molecular and cellular tools to study germline development, placental function, and the impact of early-life exposures. The group’s current research includes polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), diabetes in women, and the use of disease mouse models, human cohort samples, and organoid cultures. The lab collaborates with international partners and leverages Swedish and Danish health registries for translational research.

The position is funded as a scholarship. Applicants should hold a PhD in biology, medical science, or a related field, and have experience with mouse models, human cohort studies, or advanced molecular and cellular techniques such as single-cell or spatial genomics. A strong interest in metabolism, developmental biology, and maternal-fetal health is expected. Good communication skills in English are required.
