About this position

The Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) in Bangalore is offering the Project Oriented Biology Education (POBE) Fellowship Program, a unique science outreach initiative designed for undergraduate students. This program is specifically targeted at students currently in the first year of a three-year or four-year B.Sc. program, preferably with a combination of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics (PCBM). The POBE program aims to nurture academic potential, stimulate a deeper interest in science, and foster creativity and scientific temper among undergraduate students.

Selected fellows will have the opportunity to attend lectures, participate in laboratory projects, and engage in research activities during the summer vacation for a period of 6 to 8 weeks each year, over three consecutive summers. The program is highly competitive, with up to ten fellowships available each year. Each selected student will receive a scholarship of Rs. 10,000 per month for two months each summer. Upon successful completion of the three-year program, students will be awarded a Diploma in Biology from JNCASR. Outstanding performers may also become eligible for admission to the MS-PhD program at JNCASR, subject to satisfactory performance in an interview.

Eligibility is strictly limited to students in the first year of their B.Sc. program; those enrolled in Integrated BS/MS programs are not eligible. The application process is online, with the window opening on January 6, 2026, and closing on February 28, 2026. Selected candidates will be notified by email. This fellowship is an excellent opportunity for motivated undergraduates interested in pursuing a career in biological sciences and research, providing both financial support and valuable research experience at a premier Indian research institution.
