About this position

The Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Warsaw invites applications for a postdoctoral assistant professor position in the project "Reflection principles and their epistemic warrant," funded by the National Science Center OPUS 28. This three-year, full-time research position focuses on the philosophical and formal analysis of reflection principles, a foundational concept in epistemology, philosophy of science, and the foundations of mathematics. The project aims to develop a unified framework for understanding proof-theoretic, set-theoretic, and probabilistic reflection principles, which are central to debates about soundness, mathematical truth, and rational credence.

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary and international research team, collaborating closely with the Principal Investigator, Prof. Cezary Cieśliński, and partners at the University of Konstanz, Germany. Responsibilities include conducting advanced research, participating in team meetings, co-authoring publications, presenting at conferences, and assisting in the dissemination of research results. The position does not require teaching, but opportunities to gain teaching experience are available for interested candidates.

Applicants must hold a PhD (or equivalent) in philosophy, logic, or mathematics, awarded no earlier than 12 years before employment, and must demonstrate expertise in formal philosophy and mathematical logic. Proficiency in English at C1 or C2 level is required. The PhD must be from an institution other than the University of Warsaw, or the candidate must have completed a substantial postdoctoral fellowship abroad. Additional advantages include international research experience, academic awards, and science popularization activities. The university does not provide housing.

The position offers an annual gross salary of PLN 140,000 (approx. PLN 8,900/month gross), plus a 13th month remuneration, funding for conferences, seminars, academic literature, and a work laptop. Professional administrative support and career development opportunities are provided. The application deadline is April 29, 2026, and the position starts March 16, 2026. The selection process includes document review and remote interviews in English. For further information, contact Prof. Cezary Cieśliński at [email protected].

To apply, submit all required documents electronically as PDFs to [email protected], including the candidate’s questionnaire, personal data information, PhD diploma, proof of English proficiency, cover letter, academic writing sample, and 1-2 letters of recommendation (sent directly by referees). Reference the announcement number in your application. The competition results will be announced by May 26, 2026.
