The Hydroclimate–Society Lab at the University of Manitoba is inviting applications for three PhD positions starting in Fall 2026. The lab, led by Assistant Professor Donghoon Lee, focuses on integrating geospatial data science, Earth observation, climate forecasting, and AI/ML to address the impacts of climate extremes on hazards, agriculture, and society. Research areas include climate forecasts and satellite data for water management, socio-environmental impacts of extreme heat and wildfires, developing hazard footprints, designing resilience metrics for policy, crop yield monitoring, and sub-seasonal to decadal prediction of crop productivity. Students will join an interdisciplinary team and collaborate on real-world climate and sustainability challenges.

The positions are fully funded for four years, covering tuition and providing a competitive stipend, with access to advanced computing resources and professional development opportunities. Applicants should have a strong background in relevant fields and experience with data analysis or climate modeling.
