We are delighted to announce that applications for our first fully funded PhD and Research Placement projects in Leicestershire and Rutland are now open. We are seeking individuals with relevant experience and a strong commitment to driving positive change within the community to apply.

Successful candidates will be based at one of three leading institutions, De Montfort University , Loughborough University , or the University of Leicester , where they will receive support from teams of researchers and collaborate with local community-focused organisations.

To gain deeper insight into the Collaboratory programme and our objectives for the PhD studentships and placements, eligible applicants are encouraged to attend one of our applicant support webinars or in-person drop-in sessions. Applications close on Sunday, 29 June 2025.

What's required

Applicants must demonstrate experience supporting or leading grassroots projects; a degree or academic background is not required. Essential competencies include strong understanding of the project, analytical skills, ability to communicate complex concepts, and experience collaborating with community groups or voluntary sector organisations. Inclusive group facilitation skills, passion for learning, and commitment to environmental sustainability and social justice are required. Desirable skills include fluency in South Asian languages, computer literacy, and flexibility to attend meetings outside office hours. Only those meeting eligibility criteria will be considered.
