The Berthelot lab at Institut Pasteur in Paris invites applications for a fully funded postdoctoral position in evolutionary functional genomics. This exciting opportunity is part of a 2M€ grant project focused on understanding the rapid evolution of the uterus in mammals, a key organ in reproduction that exhibits remarkable evolutionary diversity. The lab investigates how gene expression programs in the uterus have evolved to produce rare and dramatic phenotypes such as menstruation and invasive embryo implantation, traits that have appeared independently in primates and other mammalian groups.
The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary and collaborative team employing cutting-edge approaches, including single-cell multi-omics sequencing, comparative genomics, and evolutionary modeling across humans, primates, and other mammals. The postdoctoral project will be tailored in collaboration with the candidate to align with their skills and research interests, offering flexibility and the chance to address a variety of biological questions within the core project framework.
The Berthelot lab is a G5 tenure-track group within the Genomes and Genetics department at Institut Pasteur, with co-affiliations to the Developmental and Computational Biology departments. Funding and Benefits: The position is fully funded for two years, with the possibility of extension. Salary is commensurate with experience and follows the Inserm pay scale. Eligibility and Requirements: Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in biological sciences or a related field. A strong computational background in genomics, population genetics, biostatistics, evolutionary biology, or related disciplines is required. Experience with large genomic datasets, -omics data analysis (e.g., RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq), comparative or evolutionary genomics, proficiency in R and/or Python, and high-performance cluster computing are advantageous. Excellent communication and organizational skills are expected, and training can be provided in any of these areas. Proficiency in English is required.
