We're excited to announce a fully funded 4-year PhD studentship in collaboration with British Judo Association and the University of Wolverhampton

This is a unique opportunity to:
? Deliver S&C support to elite judo athletes at the British Judo National Training Centre
? Work within an interdisciplinary team alongside Olympic and World-class performers
? Develop applied academic expertise through a project focused on gym-to-mat performance transfer
? £20,780 annual stipend + full tuition fee waiver

?? Research Project: Enhancing Judo Performance – Designing and Delivering Effective Training

The project explores how physical preparation translates into technical and tactical success in competition. It includes:

Identifying key physical qualities behind winning judo actions
Co-designing training interventions with coaches and athletes
Developing practical tools to track readiness and adaptation

Funding details

What's required

Applicants should have a strong academic background in sport science, strength and conditioning, or a related field. Experience in coaching, monitoring, and planning in elite sport environments is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate applied academic skills and an interest in interdisciplinary research. A CV and cover letter outlining suitability and how the candidate meets the person specification are required. Contact details of two referees must be included.
