Description

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, invites applications for four to nine (4-9) Postdoctoral Researcher positions in Mathematics. These fixed-term positions, lasting 1–3 years, are set to begin mainly in fall 2026 or spring 2026, or as agreed. The roles are research-focused, with minimal teaching duties, and are ideal for promising researchers who have recently completed or are about to complete their doctoral degree in mathematics or a closely related field. Research at the department covers a broad spectrum, including geometric analysis, inverse problems, geometric measure theory, harmonic analysis, nonlinear partial differential equations, algebra, statistics, logic, analysis, applied mathematics, number theory, probability theory, geometry, topology, and computational mathematics. Candidates whose research interests overlap or complement these areas are especially encouraged to apply. The department is internationally recognized and participates in several Finnish Centres of Excellence and research consortia, such as the Flagship of Advanced Mathematics for Sensing, Imaging and Modelling (FAME). Postdoctoral Researchers are expected to focus primarily on scientific research, with some participation in teaching. The working language is English, and proficiency in English is required. The University of Jyväskylä offers a vibrant, international, and multidisciplinary research environment, with excellent facilities and a supportive community. The city of Jyväskylä provides a high standard of living, affordable childcare, good family benefits, and a lively cultural and student scene. The salary for these positions is determined by the university salary system for teaching and research staff (demand level 5–6), with a gross monthly salary of approximately 3600–4800 €, depending on qualifications and experience. Standard Finnish employment benefits apply, and a six-month trial period is in place at the start of employment. Applicants must submit a CV, a motivation/cover letter (max 2 pages), a numbered list of scientific publications, and a degree certificate (highest degree) in English and PDF format. An up-to-date ORCID profile with public publications is mandatory. Applications must be submitted via the University of Jyväskylä online application form by November 30, 2025. Applications sent via email will not be considered. For further information, contact Professor Tapio Rajala (tapio.rajala@jyu.fi) or the recruiting research group leaders. The University of Jyväskylä values equality and diversity and encourages qualified applicants from all backgrounds to apply.
