About this position

Radboud University is offering a fully funded PhD position in Molecular Biology at the Vermeulen Lab, Faculty of Science, in the Netherlands. The research focuses on protein regulatory networks in cancer, proteomics-driven discovery of protein–protein interactions, spatial proteomics on FFPE tumour samples, mapping intratumoral heterogeneity, single-cell proteomics, and identifying novel drug targets. The project is part of the Oncode Accelerator Growth Fund, aiming to accelerate new cancer therapies through innovative omics strategies.

As a PhD candidate, you will develop and optimize proteomic workflows for limited clinical samples, perform proteomics on primary tissues, organoids, and patient-derived FFPE samples, and establish tumour heterogeneity maps using spatial proteomics. You will also apply single-cell proteomics and collaborate on proximity-labelling tool development, conducting large-scale signalling network analyses in annotated cancer cohorts. Up to 10% of your time may involve teaching responsibilities.

Eligibility requires a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field, with strong interest in proteomics, cancer biology, and gene regulation. Experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular cloning is essential, and prior mass spectrometry experience is advantageous. The ideal candidate will have a collaborative mindset, analytical skills, and motivation for interdisciplinary research.

The position offers a gross monthly salary of €3,059–€3,881, an 8% holiday allowance, and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus. The initial contract is for 1.5 years, extendable by 2.5 years upon positive evaluation. Additional benefits include extra annual leave, flexible working hours, sports and cultural discounts, pension plan, and professional development opportunities. The Vermeulen Lab is internationally recognized for its expertise in interaction proteomics and translational cancer research, providing access to clinical material and pharmaceutical collaborations.

Applications must be submitted online via the Radboud University job portal, addressed to Professor Michiel Vermeulen. The deadline is 04 January 2026, with interviews scheduled for January and February. For more information, visit the provided links or contact the lab through the university website.
