About this position

The University of Orléans is offering three fully funded PhD positions as part of the SPRING MSCA Doctoral Network, focusing on the resilience and security of critical infrastructure through advanced control systems and networked cyber-physical systems. The research areas include increasing self-adaptability of control systems via diffusive-like dynamics, secure distributed set-based state estimation in networked switched systems, and stealthy attack diagnosis in networked switched control systems. These projects are highly interdisciplinary, combining control engineering, applied mathematics, computer science, and security to address real-world challenges in energy, water, and transport systems.

Successful candidates will join an international training network spanning over 15 institutions, with opportunities for secondments in Germany, Greece, and Cyprus. The program emphasizes both methodological research and practical case studies, aiming to shape the future of critical infrastructure resilience. The positions are fully funded for 36 months, offering a gross annual salary of €39,465 (including mobility allowance) and additional family allowance if applicable, in line with the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) regulations.

Applicants must hold a BSc or MSc in Control Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Communication Engineering, or a related field, and must not have resided in France for more than 12 months in the past three years. English proficiency at B2 level or higher is required. The program values diversity and gender balance, and all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply. The application process involves submitting a single application via the online form, including a motivation letter, CV, academic transcripts, references, and a sample of written work. Candidates may rank up to three projects in their application and should be prepared for a two-round interview process.

Supervision will be provided by Prof. Nacim Ramdani (University of Orléans, France) and Prof. Martin Fränzle (University of Oldenburg, Germany), both leading experts in control systems and cyber-physical systems. The research will contribute to the development of robust, adaptive, and secure distributed systems, with significant impact on the safety and reliability of critical infrastructure. For more information and to apply, visit the project website or contact the supervisors directly.
