Uppsala University is offering two fully funded PhD positions in Human Geography, with research areas including urban geography, housing, and political ecology. The Department of Human Geography is internationally recognized for its research and education, covering a broad spectrum of subdisciplines such as urban and regional planning, GIS, spatial analysis, and political ecology with feminist and decolonial perspectives. The department employs around 45 staff and provides a vibrant academic environment for doctoral studies.

Position 1 is affiliated with the Institute for Housing and Urban Research (IBF) and focuses on housing and/or urban geography. Position 2 is based in the Department of Human Geography and centers on political ecology, welcoming projects in feminist and decolonial studies as well as broader political ecology topics. Both positions offer a four-year, full-time employment contract, starting September 1, 2026, with a salary and the possibility of up to 20% departmental duties such as teaching or administration.

Applicants must have a Master’s degree in human geography or equivalent qualifications (240 credits, with at least 60 at Master’s level and an independent project of at least 15 credits). These requirements must be fulfilled by June 30, 2026.
