About this position

Join the Petr Tesina Research Group at the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC), Masaryk University, Brno, as a PhD candidate focusing on ribosomal complexes involved in human translation control. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of structural biology, investigating the molecular mechanisms that regulate protein synthesis in human cells. The research project centers on the structural analysis of ribosomal complexes using state-of-the-art cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) instruments available at CEITEC's core facility. Comprehensive training in cryo-EM techniques will be provided, ensuring you develop advanced skills in this cutting-edge methodology.

The lab is well-funded, supported by an ERC Starting Grant and an EMBO Installation Grant, guaranteeing robust financial and research resources. As a member of the group, you will benefit from flexible working hours, EMBO support for further education and professional development (including meeting grants, lab visiting fellowships, interview support, young investigator PhD courses, and Lindau Nobel Laureate meeting opportunities), and open access to CEITEC MU core facilities with experienced staff and top-tier equipment.

The ideal candidate will possess an MSc or equivalent degree in Life Sciences, with a strong interest in structural biology. Experience in structural biology, biochemistry, molecular biology methods, and programming skills are highly valued. Proficiency in English (spoken and written) is essential. Additional experience with human cell cultures, strong communication and interpersonal skills, motivation, and a collaborative mindset are desirable.

The benefits package includes six weeks of paid holiday, medical insurance, financial contributions to meals and kindergarten/pension schemes, a Multisport card, mental health care, and sports lessons directly at the campus. The campus also features the Kindergarten Elánek, providing support for families.

Applications should include a CV, motivation letter, list of publications, and contacts for at least two references, submitted via the e-application link. The application deadline is June 30, 2026, but candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as applications will be assessed in the order received. For any questions or issues with the application process, contact Lenka Divinová at the provided email address.

This position is ideal for creative, independent, and motivated individuals eager to advance their expertise in structural biology and contribute to impactful research in human translation control. Start date is negotiable for Q4 2026 or Q1 2027.
