About this position

This PhD project, based at The University of Manchester, focuses on multi-arm and constrained manipulation in robotics, with applications spanning surgical, space, scientific, and nuclear domains. The candidate will have access to state-of-the-art facilities, including a variety of robotic systems (UR30, UR3e, KUKA R820 Med, Kinova arms) and a range of aerial, mobile, and legged robots. The project can be based in Manchester (Nancy Rothwell Building, Control Systems and Robotics Group) or at RAICo1 in Whitehaven, Cumbria, offering flexibility in research environment.

Applicants should hold or expect to achieve at least a 2.1 honours degree or a master’s (or international equivalent) in a relevant science or engineering discipline. The position is fully funded for excellent candidates, covering tuition fees and providing a tax-free stipend at the UKRI rate (£20,780 for 2025/26), with annual increases expected.
