About this position

A fully funded PhD position is available in the group of Javier del Pino at the Condensed Matter Physics Center (IFIMAC), Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain. The research focuses on nonlinear quantum dynamics in driven-dissipative systems, exploring fundamental questions at the interface of quantum optics, condensed matter, and nonequilibrium physics. The project combines analytical insight with modern computational techniques to study time-dependent quantum systems, nonreciprocity, and topological effects in quantum matter.

Key research areas include driven-dissipative many-body dynamics, discovery of stabilized states of matter (such as solitons, superradiant states, and limit cycles), and the development of semianalytical and numerical methods (e.g., harmonic balance, tensor network techniques, and topological methods). Theoretical work will be complemented by collaborations with experimental groups, and students will have access to a dynamic, international research environment with strong expertise in nanophysics, quantum optics, soft matter, and advanced materials.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in quantum mechanics or condensed matter physics, excellent analytical skills, and a genuine interest in programming. Experience in scientific computing or numerical modeling is advantageous, as is an interest in experimental collaboration. The group values diversity and encourages applications from women and underrepresented groups in science.

The position is funded by a Ramón y Cajal fellowship, with a duration of 3 years and possible extension to 4 years. Attendance at national and international schools and workshops is supported. The application deadline is February 29th, 2026, and the start date is flexible but should be before Fall 2026.

To apply, send a single PDF containing your CV, transcripts, Master’s thesis (if available), and contact details of one or two referees to [email protected], using the subject line: PhD Application – [Your Name].
