About this position

The Mathematical Institute at Leiden University invites applications for a fully funded 4-year PhD position in Statistics, focusing on survival analysis and dynamic prediction in complex longitudinal studies. This position is part of the NWO-funded project “DynoSurv: flexible statistical models for the dynamic prediction of survival outcomes in complex longitudinal studies,” led by Dr. Mirko Signorelli. The successful candidate will join the DynoSurv research team and contribute to the development of innovative statistical methods and software for dynamic prediction, with a particular emphasis on handling complex survival outcomes such as competing risks and interval censoring. The role involves significant programming in R and collaboration with a vibrant group of researchers in biostatistics, mathematical statistics, and computational statistics.

Eligibility: Applicants must hold (or be about to complete) a master’s degree in statistics, (applied) mathematics, machine learning, or a closely related quantitative discipline. Essential qualifications include experience with statistical methods and applications, strong programming skills in R, and excellent English communication and organizational abilities. A background in survival analysis and experience in developing statistical methods or software are desirable but not required.

Funding and Benefits: The position offers a full-time contract (38 hours/week) for four years, with an initial one-year appointment extended upon positive evaluation. The salary ranges from €3059 to €3881 gross per month, plus an 8% holiday allowance, 8.3% end-of-year bonus, and a comprehensive pension scheme. Additional benefits include funding for international conference travel, reimbursement of commuting costs, a home-working allowance, and provision of a laptop. The position is governed by the CLA of Dutch Universities.
