Are you passionate about quantum physics and eager to contribute to groundbreaking research at the intersection of quantum mechanics and gravity? The Section for Quantum Physics and Information Technology (QPIT) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) invites applications for a fully funded PhD position focused on exploring theoretical connections between quantum mechanics and gravity. The project emphasizes the development of low-energy, table-top tests using advanced techniques from quantum optics and quantum information science.
As a PhD student, you will join bigQ – Center for Macroscopic Quantum States, a Danish national Center of Excellence dedicated to quantum information science and technology. The center’s mission is to push the boundaries of quantum physics into new macroscopic regimes, deepen our understanding of fundamental science, and accelerate the development of emerging quantum technologies. You will be part of a vibrant, international research community comprising around 60 members from 23 nationalities, including faculty, PhD students, postdocs, engineers, and administrators. The center fosters curiosity-driven research, innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and industry partnerships.
The position is supervised by Professor Ulrik Lund Andersen and Associate Professor Jonatan Bohr Brask, both leading experts in quantum physics. Eligibility: Applicants must hold (or be about to complete) a two-year master’s degree (120 ECTS) or equivalent in physics, applied mathematics, or related fields. Excellent analytical skills are required. Experience in quantum mechanics, quantum information, quantum optics, quantum field theory, or general relativity is preferred, with documented project experience considered an advantage. Candidates should demonstrate academic excellence, scientific achievements, and a strong drive for research. Teamwork, scientific curiosity, creativity, and responsible conduct are highly valued.
Funding: The position is fully funded for 3 years, with salary and appointment terms based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
