The Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies (BIGSAS) at the University of Bayreuth offers a structured and innovative PhD programme rooted in nearly 50 years of excellence in African Studies. As part of the Cluster of Excellence EXC 2052 – "Africa Multiple: reconfiguring African Studies," BIGSAS brings together outstanding African and non-African academics for joint research and interdisciplinary training. There are no tuition fees, but students pay a semester contribution (163.04 EUR) covering student services and public transportation.

Grants can be awarded for up to two semesters, but first-semester students are not eligible. Academic achievements from the previous semester are crucial for evaluation.
