The University of Gothenburg is offering a fully funded PhD position in Natural Science, specialising in Biology with a focus on Bioinformatics, at the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology. The successful candidate will join the Bojar group, which specializes in machine learning and systems glycobiology, and will be supervised by Dr. Daniel Bojar. The research will center on developing new AI models and data science techniques to enhance the processing and analysis of glycomics data, aiming to generate new functional insights into systems glycobiology. The project is highly interdisciplinary, integrating computational and experimental methods, and offers opportunities for both computational and wet-lab work. Key responsibilities include improving AI models for glycomics data analysis, extending bioinformatics workflows to identify glycan-derived biomarker candidates, and developing enrichment analyses for glycan-related data. The position encourages collaboration within and outside the group, participation in international conferences, and co-supervision of undergraduate students. The PhD is funded by the Future Research Leaders 9 (FFL-9) program from the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, and employment is for four years full-time, with the possibility of departmental duties (up to 20%) that may extend the duration. Applicants must have a second-cycle degree (Master's or equivalent) in a relevant natural science field, or at least 240 credits (with 60 at second-cycle level), or equivalent qualifications.
