About this position

This post-doctoral fellow opportunity at the Sustainable Materials Research Center (SusMaT-RC), Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), offers a unique chance to contribute to cutting-edge research in recycling plastic waste. The project is a collaboration between UM6P and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), focusing on developing innovative recycling technologies for plastics through sustainable physical and chemical pathways. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Professor Youssef Habibi, joining a multidisciplinary team of chemists, polymer specialists, and engineers.

SusMaT-RC is dedicated to advancing biobased products and materials using biotechnological, physical, and chemical conversion strategies. The center emphasizes understanding structure-property relationships across molecular, nano, and macro scales, aiming to address technological challenges and support the transition toward a green and circular economy in Morocco and Africa.

Key responsibilities include hands-on polymer processing and recycling, synthesis and characterization of polymer materials, rigorous testing of designed systems, collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, maintaining detailed experimental records, drafting technical reports and research papers, and contributing to proposal writing and external funding efforts. The role also involves supervising students and may require short-term international travel.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in organic chemistry, polymer science, materials science and engineering, or related fields, with strong experience in polymer processing, recycling, and analytical techniques. Excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork skills are essential. The university provides a vibrant research environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure and a commitment to innovation and applied research.

Applications are reviewed immediately due to project urgency. To apply, submit your CV, two recommendation letters, and a one-page statement outlining your skills and motivation. For more information and to apply, visit the provided application link.
