The ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research in Mannheim, Germany, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher for its Environmental and Climate Economics department. This position is embedded in the research area of Market Mechanisms and Decarbonization Policies, focusing on empirical economic research and high-level policy advice. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop an independent research agenda while contributing to the department’s broader research program, including policy advisory work and publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Economics or a closely related field by August 2026, with research interests in environmental, climate, public, or applied microeconomics. Experience with economic equilibrium models and simulation-based work is advantageous. The role requires strong analytical and writing skills, and the ability to work independently in a collaborative, internationally connected environment.

The position offers a full-time contract for two years, with the possibility of extension up to six years and a potential permanent appointment. Salary and benefits are aligned with the German public sector pay scale (TV-L EG 13), including 30 days of paid vacation, paid medical leave, and staff benefits such as maternity/parental leave. There are no teaching responsibilities, allowing full focus on research and policy work.
