About this position
This postdoctoral opportunity at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) offers two positions focused on the development of multifunctional bio-sourced hydrogels for agricultural applications. The project is a collaboration between the Sustainable Materials Research Center (SusMaT-RC) at UM6P and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), providing a unique international research environment. The main research goal is to convert locally abundant biomass into high-value components and integrate these with fertilizers or biobased additives to produce advanced hydrogels through sustainable processes.
Successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary team and work under the supervision of Professor Youssef Habibi. The research involves hydrogel formulation, (bio)polymer processing, and the development and characterization of porous materials. Applicants should have a strong background in materials science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or chemistry, and be familiar with analytical, spectroscopic, and microscopic techniques. Responsibilities include rigorous testing of materials, collaboration with chemists and engineers, maintaining detailed experimental records, and contributing to scientific publications and funding proposals. Experience in supervising students and the ability to travel abroad for short assignments are also expected.
UM6P is a leading institution in Morocco, dedicated to advancing applied research and innovation for Morocco and the African continent. The Sustainable Materials Research Center (SusMaT-RC) is engaged in developing advanced biobased products and materials, focusing on biotechnological, physical, and chemical conversion strategies. The center aims to address technological challenges and support the transition toward a green and circular economy.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field and demonstrate excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork skills. The application process requires submission of a CV, two recommendation letters, and a one-page statement of interest. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis due to the urgency of the project.
