Description

Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is seeking a postdoctoral Environmental Fate Modeller to join their Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA) team. This position is ideal for candidates passionate about modelling the behaviour of chemicals in soil and water to support sustainable agriculture and environmental protection. The successful applicant will contribute to risk assessment projects, developing and applying advanced models for soil, surface water, and groundwater systems, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams on exposure and ecotoxicology projects. The ERA team at WUR is a leading group in pesticide risk assessment and modelling, working closely with government, NGOs, and industry. The team develops science-based tools and methodologies for environmental risk assessment, aiming to inform policy and safeguard ecosystems. The role involves model development, programming (primarily in Python), simulation analysis, and scientific publication. Applicants should have a Master’s or PhD in environmental sciences, hydrology, or a related field, with at least 3 years of experience in environmental modelling, strong programming skills, and a solid understanding of mathematical and numerical modelling concepts. Excellent English communication skills (C1 level) are required, and knowledge of Dutch or willingness to learn is expected. Funding

The position offers a competitive gross salary between €3,399 and €5,478 per month for a full-time 36-hour work week, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 10). Requirements

Applicants must have a Master's or PhD in environmental sciences, hydrology, or a related field from a recognized university. A minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental modelling is required. Candidates must demonstrate excellent knowledge of processes controlling the behaviour and transport of chemicals in the environment, strong programming skills in Python, and preferably other languages such as R, Fortran, or C.
