About this position

The University of Oldenburg’s Signal Processing Division and the Cluster of Excellence Hearing4all.connects invite applications for a postdoctoral Research Associate position focused on “Foundation models for hearing aid processing.” This three-year, full-time role is embedded within a leading research environment dedicated to advancing signal processing for acoustical and biomedical applications, with a particular emphasis on hearing aids and speech communication devices.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant team working on cutting-edge research topics such as microphone array processing, speech enhancement, and acoustic scene analysis. The position involves designing, implementing, and experimentally validating real-time sound processing algorithms suitable for hearing aids, including acoustic scene analysis, noise reduction, and speaker separation. Research will also address distributed processing schemes for hearing aid algorithms, integrating advanced signal processing, low-latency coding, and distributed machine learning approaches. Collaboration with project partners, publication of research results, participation in international conferences, and supervision of students are integral to the role.

The Signal Processing Division offers access to state-of-the-art high-performance computing facilities, unique measurement equipment, and specialized labs, including a variable acoustics laboratory. The interdisciplinary Cluster of Excellence Hearing4all.connects provides further opportunities for collaboration and professional development.

Applicants must hold a PhD (or equivalent) in electrical engineering, computer science, applied physics, or a related field, and demonstrate an outstanding scientific track record, including an excellent doctoral thesis and publication record. Required skills include extensive experience in speech/audio signal processing and machine learning, strong programming abilities (Python, Matlab), and excellent English communication skills. Preferred qualifications include experience with speech and audio foundation models, hearing device algorithms, distributed signal processing or machine learning, and strong teamwork and communication skills.

The position offers a competitive salary (TV-L E13, approx. 4,600 € per month before taxes), special annual payment, company pension scheme, asset-related benefits, and 30 days annual leave.
