Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Experimental Linguistics Laboratory (ELL) University of Agder (UiA) in Norway

The University of Agder (UiA) invites applications for a three-year, full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in the Experimental Linguistics Laboratory (ELL), located at the Kristiansand campus. This role is affiliated with the Department of Foreign Languages and Translation within the Faculty of Humanities and Education, and is part of the ERC Synergy research project "Phonological cognisance and allied linguistic representations: acquisition, bilingualism, change and script (PAAL)" (2025-2031). The PAAL project is an international collaboration between the Universities of Agder, Radboud (Netherlands), and Oxford (UK), aiming to develop a unified theory of phonological knowledge and its relationship to script, with a focus on (morpho-)phonological alternations, constraints on phonological representations, and their impact on language acquisition and change.

The successful candidate will join the Experimental Linguistics Laboratory, led by Professors Linda Wheeldon and Allison Wetterlin, and will focus on adult language processing in both spoken and written modalities. The research will primarily involve Norwegian-English bilingual speakers and employ cognitive and linguistic experiments, including eye-tracking and EEG methodologies, to investigate the influence of first language phonological representation on second language English processing. The postdoctoral fellow will be fully involved in the design, execution, analysis, and dissemination of research, and is expected to be first author on several publications. The position offers opportunities for international and interdisciplinary collaboration, including work with Prof. Paula Fikkert (Radboud University) and Prof. Aditi Lahiri (Oxford University).

Applicants must have a PhD in Linguistics or neuro-/psycholinguistics (or have submitted their thesis and defended it by the start date), with experience in EEG experiment design and analysis, strong data analysis skills (including mixed effects modelling), and excellent English communication and academic writing abilities. Desired qualifications include proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, strong organizational and teamwork skills, and the ability to contribute to public engagement. The position is remunerated at NOK 600,000 – 650,000 per year, with a compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
