About this position
The University of Oslo is offering a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in global, comparative, and qualitative life-course criminology as part of the ERC-funded project "Life-Course Trajectories to Crime Globally (CRIMLIFE)". The position is based at the Department of Criminology and Sociology of Law and will involve close collaboration with Professor Sveinung Sandberg and a project team of six researchers in Oslo.
CRIMLIFE aims to advance the field of life-course criminology by integrating life-stories and life-course studies to understand how social, cultural, economic, and institutional factors shape criminal trajectories across different societies. The project adopts a global comparative approach, focusing on six countries: Norway, the Czech Republic, Türkiye, Nigeria, India, and Colombia. It emphasizes the roles of the state, family, employment, and culture, using mixed-methods to analyze how these institutions influence crime and marginalization in diverse contexts.
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting independent research within the scope of the project, contributing to the development of comparative criminological theory, and engaging in collaborative work with the project team. The position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic, international research environment at one of Norway's leading universities.
Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in criminology or a closely related discipline. Experience with qualitative and/or comparative research methods is desirable. The position is full-time and temporary, with a standard workweek of 37.5 hours. The project is not funded by an EU programme.
For further information and to apply, visit the official JobbNorge portal. The application deadline is 30 April 2026. For academic inquiries, contact Professor Sveinung Sandberg at [email protected].
