Åbo Akademi University, a leading research institution in Finland, is offering a fixed-term postdoctoral researcher position in Cell Biology from April 1, 2026 to August 31, 2028. The role is embedded within the Centre of Excellence in Immune–Endothelial Interfaces (IMMENs), funded by the Research Council of Finland and spanning 2026–2033. IMMENs brings together research groups specializing in lymphatic biology, leukocyte guidance, cellular crosstalk, organ-on-chip technologies, and advanced imaging, aiming to unravel the regulation of local immune responses at the lymphatic endothelium–immune cell interface and develop innovative research tools.

The successful candidate will join the Cell Fate Lab, led by Professor Cecilia Sahlgren, within the Biochemistry and Cell Biology unit at the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The research will focus on high-impact experimental studies of interactions between immune cells, cancer cells, and lymphatic endothelial cells, including mechanistic investigations of cell–cell communication. The postdoctoral researcher will analyze and interpret experimental data, maintain rigorous documentation, and contribute to scientific dissemination through publications, conferences, and consortium activities. Active participation in seminars, collaborations, and mentoring of students or junior researchers is encouraged, fostering a vibrant and interdisciplinary research environment.

Applicants must possess a doctoral degree in cell biology, immunology, cancer biology, vascular/lymphatic biology, or a closely related field. Essential qualifications include demonstrated experience in biomedical experiments, the ability to design robust experiments with quantitative readouts, and a proven capacity for abstract thinking and independent scientific project development. Interdisciplinary collaboration, especially spanning biology and bioengineering, is highly valued. Fluency in English for both written and oral communication is required. Applications will be evaluated based on research competence (80%) and interactive competence (20%), including academic merits, practical skills, community activities, and international collaboration. The position offers a competitive salary determined by the Finnish university collective agreement, with requirement levels 5–6 and a starting monthly salary of 3600–4500 euros, depending on experience and skills.
