The Department of Marine Sciences at the University of Gothenburg is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Marine Population Genomics. This 3-year, full-time position is based at the Tjärnö Marine Laboratory in Sweden and focuses on the population genomics of Fucus vesiculosus, a foundational brown seaweed species in the Baltic Sea ecosystem. The research aims to investigate a unique, massive asexual clone of this species, which spans over 500 km of coastline, to understand how somatic mutations contribute to adaptation across environmental gradients such as salinity and temperature.

The successful candidate will engage in both field and laboratory work, including DNA extraction and quality control, and will be primarily responsible for the bioinformatic analysis of whole-genome sequencing (WGS) data. Key tasks include identifying non-synonymous mutations, analyzing genomic variation, and publishing research findings. The role also involves contributing to the supervision of students and participating in departmental seminars and activities.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree (or equivalent) completed within the last three years (exceptions for special circumstances), with strong experience in DNA extraction, bioinformatics, and population genomics. Proficiency in processing and analyzing DNA sequence data and fluency in English are required. Experience with WGS data and seaweed genomics is considered a merit.
