About this position

Ghent University invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in multimodal AI for data-driven prostate cancer radiotherapy. This FWO-funded project is embedded in an ongoing clinical trial at Ghent University Hospital and aims to personalize cancer radiotherapy using advanced computational methodologies and multimodal data integration. The research is supervised by a multidisciplinary team including Prof. Brent van der Heyden, Prof. Valérie Fonteyne (radiation oncologist), Dr. Evelien Bogaert (medical physics expert), Prof. Ioulia Tzouvadaki (nanotechnology), and Prof. Mieke Adriaens (electrochemistry).

The successful candidate will design, implement, and validate AI-based algorithms for processing imaging, clinical, and treatment data, supporting the development of predictive and decision-support models for personalized radiotherapy. The role also involves contributing to the valorization pathway for biosensing and software solutions, facilitating clinical translation, technology maturation, stakeholder engagement, and preparation of funding applications in collaboration with the PI and business developers.

Applicants must hold a PhD (or be in the final year of their PhD) in a relevant field such as multimodal big data processing, artificial intelligence, statistical analysis, radiotherapy, or predictive medicine. A strong interest in biosensing technologies and the integration of signals is essential. Candidates should demonstrate English proficiency at a minimum C1 level (CEFR) or equivalent, strong communication and public speaking skills, and an entrepreneurial mindset with motivation to translate research into clinical applications and valorization pathways.

The position offers a 22-month contract at 100% employment, with remuneration according to salary scale PD1 to PD4.
