About this position
Chalmers University of Technology invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher in precision nutrition at the Division of Food and Nutrition Science, Gothenburg, Sweden. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative research at the intersection of metabolomics, microbiome science, and computational modelling, with the goal of developing new food intake biomarkers and understanding individual metabolic responses to diet. The overarching aim is to advance personalized nutrition strategies to prevent cardiometabolic diseases.
The Department of Life Sciences at Chalmers is dedicated to research, innovation, and education that supports a biobased society and improved human health. The Division of Food and Nutrition Science addresses major challenges in sustainable food production, nutrition, and health, conducting research and education to provide new knowledge and solutions for a sustainable planet and healthy populations.
The research project focuses on developing objective biomarkers of dietary intake and improving the understanding of inter-individual differences in metabolic responses to food. Utilizing large population studies, advanced metabolomics, microbiome analyses, and computational modelling, the project seeks to identify personalized metabolic response patterns and their links to disease risk. The ultimate goal is to create data-driven strategies for personalized dietary recommendations.
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will engage in both wet-lab (mass spectrometric analysis) and dry-lab tasks. Responsibilities include developing and validating novel dietary biomarkers using metabolomics and metaproteomics, analyzing large-scale multi-omics and clinical datasets, and applying advanced statistical and machine learning methods to identify metabolic response patterns. The role also offers opportunities to supervise master’s and doctoral students and participate in teaching at the undergraduate or master’s level.
Applicants must have a doctoral degree in bioanalysis, computational medicine, food and nutrition science, or a related field, with experience in mass spectrometry and metabolomics. Strong English communication skills and a willingness to spend 3-6 months abroad in a collaborating lab are required. Additional experience in multi-omics data integration and microbiome data analysis is advantageous. The position is a full-time, temporary employment for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension, and requires physical presence in Gothenburg. Chalmers offers a dynamic, inclusive work environment with comprehensive employee benefits, including healthcare, parental leave, and support for settling in Sweden.
Applications must be submitted in English as PDF files, including a comprehensive CV, publication list, teaching experience, and a personal letter outlining research background and future goals. The deadline for applications is April 11, 2026. For further information, contact Professor Rikard Landberg at [email protected].
