The University of Luxembourg, a leading international research university, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Robotics Manipulation for Space Robotics. The position is based at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT), specifically within the Space Robotics (SpaceR) research group. SpaceR is renowned for its work across the spectrum of space robotics, including in-space servicing, assembly, manufacturing, space debris removal, XR immersive teleoperation, robot multi-modal perception, and multi-robot cooperation. The group offers a vibrant, collaborative environment with state-of-the-art facilities such as the LunaLab, Zero-G Lab, and the new Space Manipulation Lab, providing dedicated spaces for advanced research and experimentation.
The successful candidate will assume a leading role in defining, acquiring, managing, and scientifically contributing to projects in robotic manipulation for space robotics. Responsibilities include conducting cutting-edge research in learning-based and/or model-based control and perception strategies for dexterous robotic manipulation, supporting laboratory activities and experiments, collaborating with commercial partners, setting up robotic arms, and performing software and hardware integration. The candidate will also mentor and advise PhD students, contribute to research proposals, draft and review project deliverables, support teaching activities (especially within the Master's course Robotic Manipulation in Space), and drive high-impact research dissemination through first-author submissions to top-tier journals.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field, with a focus on robotic manipulation. Required skills include experience with ROS-compatible robotic manipulation systems, robotic arms, cameras, F/T sensors, sensor calibration, and a proven publication record in top-tier conferences and journals. Fluency in English is mandatory. Ideal candidates should have expertise in control methods (impedance/admittance, force control), artificial intelligence and deep learning for robotics, computer vision, tactile sensing, reinforcement learning, robotic simulation tools (ROS, Gazebo, Mujoco, IsaacSim-Gym-Lab), and programming skills in C++, Python, and ROS framework. Commitment, teamwork, and a critical mind are essential.
The position is a fixed-term contract for 24 months, with a yearly gross salary of EUR 85,176.
