Tampere University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the Micromechanics and Nanostructures research group, focusing on the micromechanics of multi-metal carbides. The group specializes in structure-mechanical property-performance correlations across metals, ceramics, polymers, and composites, with a strong emphasis on in-situ micromechanical testing and advanced electron microscopy techniques. The successful candidate will contribute to the HECTOR Proof-of-Concept project funded by the Research Council of Finland, aiming to develop and characterize sustainable multi-metal carbide compositions with enhanced mechanical properties for industrial applications.

The research will involve detailed micro-mechanical and electron microscopy-based microstructural characterization at small length scales, correlating deformation substructures with micromechanical properties. Candidates should have extensive experience in micromechanical test techniques such as nanoindentation and micropillar compression. Additional expertise in elevated temperature nanoindentation, focused ion beam (FIB) milling, microcantilever fracture, electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD), transmission Kikuchi diffraction (TKD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is highly valued.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or related fields, demonstrate a strong publication record, and possess skills in independent scientific work, project management, and collaboration. Fluency in English and experience in scientific writing are required.
