About this position

The Smart Energy Systems Laboratory at Brock University is recruiting a highly motivated PhD student to work on next-generation power electronics for clean energy, electric mobility, and smart-grid applications. The research will focus on GaN-based converters, EV charging systems, hybrid microgrids, and real-time digital control.

Specific applications include photovoltaic power generation, grid power quality improvement, solid-state transformers, and dynamic voltage restorers. The position involves developing power electronic converters and advanced control systems, working on GaN & SiC high-frequency converters, bidirectional/wireless EV chargers, energy storage integration, digital energy management systems, and hardware-in-the-loop testing and validation. Candidates should have a strong background in power electronics, control systems, or electrical engineering, with a proven record of IEEE journal publications and research excellence. The fully funded PhD position is open to both domestic and international applicants, with priority for those already in Canada.
