PhD Scholarship in Marketing at Copenhagen Business School

Copenhagen Business School (CBS) is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD scholarship in the field of Marketing at the Department of Marketing. The department is recognized for its excellent research-led education and impactful engagement with business and society. Research at the department is organized into five clusters: Advances in Branding, B2B Marketing-Sales, Consumer Research, Digital Marketing, and Tourism and Hospitality Management. Faculty employ both qualitative and quantitative methodologies and publish in leading journals. PhD candidates may propose research topics in areas such as branding in the digital era, AI sycophancy and its influence on decision-making, frontline work in intelligent and sustainable systems, algorithmic management, and the circular economy. Applicants are also welcome to suggest topics anchored in the department’s core research fields. Tentative supervisors include Professors Richard Gyrd Jones, Johannes Hattula, and Ad de Jong. The three-year PhD program includes research under faculty supervision, research training courses, teaching obligations (416 hours), and participation in international conferences. Students are expected to spend time abroad as visiting PhD students at leading universities. The program is highly international and fosters a vibrant research environment. Applicants must have completed a relevant master’s degree (or equivalent) before enrollment, preferably in the social sciences. Fluency in English is required, and Danish proficiency is advantageous for teaching. Application materials must include a motivation letter, detailed project proposal, cooperation document, degree fulfillment documentation with GPA conversion, degree certificates, CV, sample written work, and two recommendation letters or referees. GMAT or GRE scores are strongly recommended, and TOEFL is recommended for non-native English speakers. The scholarship is fully salaried, with a monthly salary of DKK 29,691.75 to DKK 36,180.00 plus pension, and covers tuition, office space, and travel costs. Employment follows the Danish collective agreement. The application deadline is 28 February 2026, and the expected start date is 1 September 2026. Applications must be submitted via the CBS electronic recruitment system. For more information, visit the CBS website or contact the department.
