Chemistry
The University of Sydney's School of Chemistry is offering a full-time, fixed-term Postdoctoral Research Associate position in Battery Materials Chemistry for three years at the Camperdown Campus in Sydney. The role is supervised jointly by Professors Chris Ling, Markus Müllner, and Wesley Dose, and centers on research into nanostructured materials for high-power, high-capacity lithium ion batteries. The successful candidate will lead innovative research at the intersection of polymer chemistry, solid-state materials, and electrochemistry, developing and optimizing templating techniques for controlled structure formation and material design. Responsibilities include designing, characterizing, and optimizing new electrolyte solutions, testing novel materials in batteries (including electrode fabrication, cell assembly, and cycling), and analyzing experimental results to guide design improvements. The position also involves managing partnerships with academic and industry collaborators, coordinating laboratory organization and equipment maintenance, and participating in the co-supervision of students. Applicants must have a PhD in chemistry, physics, or materials science, ideally with expertise in electrochemistry, and demonstrate proficiency in materials synthesis and analysis, polymer chemistry (preferably with templating techniques), battery research, and project management. Candidates must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of employment, as visa sponsorship is not available. The University values diversity, inclusion, and integrity, and encourages applications from candidates of all backgrounds. The position offers a competitive salary (Level A, $113,400 - $121,054 per annum plus 17% superannuation). Applications close on 26 October 2025.
