10 Fully Funded PhD Positions in Plant Sciences, Molecular Biology, and Computational Biology in Germany

CEPLAS Graduate School at the University of Cologne in Germany is offering 10 fully funded PhD positions in Plant Sciences for the 2026 intake. The program is internationally oriented and designed for talented and motivated students interested in plant molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, computational biology, bioinformatics, synthetic biology, quantitative biology, plant physiology, and plant-microbe interactions. The doctoral program lasts four to five years and provides a structured research environment with interdisciplinary training and collaboration opportunities. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or a closely related field. Those who already have a master’s degree are not eligible, but students who have just started a 2-year master’s program (less than 3 months in) may apply. The program is conducted in English, and non-native speakers must provide proof of English proficiency (TOEFL 90, IELTS 6.5, or equivalent, or evidence of study in English for at least 6 months). Required application documents include a letter of motivation, CV, bachelor’s degree certificate, transcript of records, abstract of bachelor thesis (if available), higher education entrance qualification, proof of English skills, and any additional relevant documents. All documents must be submitted as a single PDF (max 5 MB) and translated into English or German if necessary. The application deadline is January 18, 2026. Applications are evaluated by a selection committee, and shortlisted candidates will be invited to online interviews, followed by an onsite selection workshop in Düsseldorf. Successful applicants will be offered a spot in the CEPLAS Graduate School, with the program starting in October 2026. Funding is fully provided for all selected PhD students, covering living expenses and tuition. The program is ideal for bachelor graduates in biology, genetics, biochemistry, computational biology, and related fields.
