Postdoctoral Researcher in Ocular Oncology

Karolinska Institutet, one of the world's leading medical universities, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher in Ocular Oncology. The position is based within the Ocular Oncology and Pathology research group at the Division of Eye and Vision, Department of Clinical Neuroscience, and is closely linked to clinical activities at St. Erik Eye Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the interface of clinical and laboratory research, with direct relevance for patients with eye cancer, particularly focusing on uveal melanoma. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will design, conduct, and follow up on research projects in ocular oncology, analyze clinical, pathological, and molecular genetic data (including next generation sequencing), and prepare applications for external research funding. You will also supervise PhD students and junior researchers, contribute to recruitment, and lead project teams in collaboration with clinicians, pathologists, statisticians, and international partners. The position involves contributing to clinical trial design and execution, scientific manuscript writing, and presenting research at national and international meetings. Applicants must hold a PhD in the medical field or an equivalent foreign degree, with documented experience in experimental and/or clinical research. Strong English communication skills, both oral and written, are essential. Merits include prior research experience in oncology, ophthalmology, ocular oncology, or pathology; experience with external research grants; expertise in genetic and bioinformatic analyses (especially next generation sequencing); survival and statistical analysis of clinical data; participation in clinical trials; and experience supervising students or PhD candidates. A clear ambition to continue in ocular research and progress academically is expected. Ability to communicate in Swedish is a plus. Personal qualities such as accuracy, responsibility, collaborative skills, and a genuine interest in translational research are highly valued. The position is a full-time temporary employment with a monthly salary and benefits provided through the university's collective agreement.
