PhD Position in Genetic Epidemiology at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is offering a full-time, 3-year PhD fellowship in Genetic Epidemiology. The research project focuses on understanding how genetic variation influences disease risk, utilizing large population-based cohorts such as the HUNT Study and the UK Biobank. The successful candidate will engage in advanced genomic-statistical techniques, including genome-wide association studies (GWAS), polygenic risk scores, Mendelian randomization, functional bioinformatic follow-up, and network analyses. This opportunity is ideal for candidates with a strong background in genetic epidemiology, biostatistics, statistics, public health, medicine, molecular biology, or related fields. Applicants must hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) corresponding to a five-year Norwegian master’s program (120 ECTS), with a grade average equivalent to B or better under the NTNU grading scale. Exceptional candidates with lower grades may be considered if they demonstrate strong suitability for PhD training. Proficiency in quantitative statistical analysis, experience with statistical software (such as R, Stata, Python), programming skills, and a good command of written and spoken English are required. Admission to the NTNU Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences doctoral programme is necessary. Preferred qualifications include experience or interest in genetic epidemiology, statistical genetics, large-scale genomic data analysis, prior research experience, academic writing, publications, or involvement in bioinformatics or data-intensive research. The fellowship provides the opportunity to work at HUNT MCE, a leading international research centre, with access to rich datasets and broad health registry linkage. The position offers hands-on experience with cutting-edge statistical genetics methods, mentorship, publishing opportunities, and networking across global research communities. The application deadline is 1 December 2025. Interested candidates should apply via NTNU’s vacancy site on Jobbnorge. For more information, visit the provided links. This position is fully funded, though specific stipend amounts and tuition coverage details are not mentioned.
