The Mannheim University of Applied Sciences is offering a fully funded PhD position in Volatilomics and Foodomics as part of the BMFTR-funded SAM3 project: Smart Applications for Multimodal Molecular Pattern Recognition. This interdisciplinary research opportunity is at the interface of artificial intelligence (AI), advanced analytical chemistry, and food science, aiming to revolutionize digitalization in analytical processes. The successful candidate will join a top-tier team and collaborate with leading industry partners to develop novel multimodal metabolomics approaches. Research Focus: The project involves conducting research at the intersection of AI and analytical chemistry, utilizing state-of-the-art techniques such as GC-MS and LC-MS for volatilomics and foodomics studies. The candidate will apply machine learning and chemometrics to complex datasets, contributing to the development of a multiomics platform for quality and authenticity analysis of fermented foods like coffee and cocoa. Eligibility: Applicants must hold an MSc in chemistry, food chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field, with excellent academic records. Experience in instrumental analysis (GC-MS, LC-MS) is required, along with basic programming skills in Python and/or R. Familiarity with machine learning, deep learning, or chemometrics is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate technical skills, enjoy hands-on work with hardware, and have a passion for interdisciplinary research. Funding and Benefits: The position is a 3-year contract with public service benefits under the TV-L scale, including company pension schemes, capital-forming benefits, and an annual special payment.
