Weber Postdoctoral Scholar in European History at University of California, Los Angeles

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Department of History is inviting applications for the Eugen and Jacqueline Weber Postdoctoral Scholar in European History. This prestigious two-year postdoctoral position, with the possibility of renewal for an additional year, is designed to support recent Ph.D. graduates in History or related fields. The successful candidate will join a vibrant academic community and contribute to both research and undergraduate teaching in European history. The position is open to scholars who have earned their Ph.D. between September 1, 2022 and June 10, 2026. Candidates from any area of European history are encouraged to apply, and the department is particularly interested in applicants who demonstrate a commitment to mentoring students from underrepresented and underserved backgrounds. The postdoctoral scholar will have the opportunity to teach an undergraduate course each academic year, such as History 187 (Variable Topic Research Seminar) or another course aligned with their research interests, and will work closely with a faculty mentor for research and professional development. The appointment offers a competitive salary range of $69,073 to $74,281, commensurate with experience, and includes full benefits. The initial term is 24 months, with the possibility of a 12-month extension based on performance and funding availability. The position is made possible by a bequest from Jacqueline and Eugen Weber, supporting the department’s mission to foster excellence in teaching and research. Applicants are required to submit a curriculum vitae, cover letter, statement of research interests and plans, statement of teaching philosophy (including possible seminar topics), and arrange for three letters of reference. The review of applications will begin on April 1, 2026, and applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The preferred start date is July 1, 2026. For full consideration, candidates are encouraged to apply by the review date. UCLA is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and encourages applications from candidates who will contribute to these values. The university is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
