PhD Position in Analog, Digital, and Mixed-Signal Integrated Circuits for Space and Defense Missions

The Integrated Circuits Design Lab (ICDL) at the University of Rhode Island (URI), Department of Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering (ECBE), is seeking a new PhD student for Fall 2026 or Spring 2027. The research focus is on analog, digital, and mixed-signal integrated circuits, particularly for space and defense missions. The successful candidate will participate in all aspects of research, including modeling, simulation, circuit design, layout, tapout, characterization board development, and chip characterization. The lab is located in the Fascitelli Center for Advanced Engineering, offering state-of-the-art facilities and a collaborative research environment. The position is fully funded, covering tuition, stipend, and benefits. The project involves developing integrated circuits for technologically advanced applications in space and defense, providing opportunities to work with cutting-edge tools such as Cadence IC design tools (Spectre, Virtuoso, Assura, PVS), Verilog HDL, MATLAB, and Mentor Calibre. Applicants should have a strong background in electrical engineering or a closely related field, with experience in integrated circuits design, PCB design, and chip characterization. Proficiency in relevant design tools and excellent communication skills are required. The application process is rolling, and interested candidates should send a single PDF with a cover letter, CV, and unofficial transcripts to [email protected]. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in advanced circuit design, space electronics, and defense technology to join a leading research group at a prominent U.S. institution.
