About this position

ERC Amsterdam (European Research College, ERUNI) is offering 12 research-only positions in Amsterdam, comprising 9 full-time Junior Researchers and 3 part-time Senior Researchers. The roles focus on Law, Political Science, International Relations, and Political Economy, with an emphasis on global governance, international law, political institutions, European integration, and the political economy of regulation, institutions, and policy. The positions are designed for ambitious, globally minded researchers who wish to contribute to policy-relevant debates at the intersection of law, politics, and global governance within a collegial, international research environment.

Junior Researchers will build a publication trajectory and develop an independent research agenda in an active research network, benefiting from high autonomy and strong institutional support for publications and international grant development. Senior Researchers will mentor junior colleagues, co-lead research lines, and develop international grant proposals (such as Horizon Europe and ERC-type schemes), alongside publication leadership. All appointments are research-only, with no teaching obligations, allowing for a focused and flexible research setting that supports autonomy and excellence. Researchers will have access to a professional academic home in Amsterdam and a decentralised European research network, including hubs in London and Rome.

Applicants should demonstrate a clear research potential and a credible publication plan (for junior roles), or an established track record, field leadership, mentoring capacity, and experience shaping research lines and/or grant proposals (for senior roles). International applicants are encouraged to apply, and meaningful engagement with European academic and policy debates is expected. The application process requires a short letter of motivation, 1–3 representative publications, a professional CV with publication list (APA style with DOIs where possible), and a proposed research plan (maximum 2–3 pages). Applications should be submitted by email to [email protected] with the subject line 'ERC Application 2025 – [Field / City]'. The deadline for applications is 30 April 2026.

ERC Amsterdam offers a vibrant, research-focused environment with strong support for growth and funding development, including institutional backing for competitive proposal preparation. The positions provide high autonomy in research design and publication strategy, opportunities for cross-hub collaboration, and engagement with policy-relevant research topics. The institution is located at Warmoesstraat 149–151 in the heart of Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
