About this position

The GreenFieldData project, funded under the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Networks, is now accepting applications for 14 Double Degree PhD Fellowships focused on IoRT Data Management and Analysis for Sustainable Agriculture. This unique opportunity offers a 3-year contract starting in September/October 2026, and is designed for aspiring researchers eager to contribute to the digital and green transition in agriculture.

GreenFieldData is a high-level MSCA Joint Doctorate initiative under Horizon Europe, Pillar 1 (Excellence). The network brings together 12 leading academic institutions across 7 EU countries, supported by 24 associated partners from both academic and non-academic sectors. As a doctoral candidate, you will join a highly integrated, inter-sectoral, and international training environment, aimed at developing robust, human-centric solutions to the challenges of climate change and socio-economic constraints in agriculture.

All 14 doctoral candidates will be enrolled in Double Degree Doctorate programmes, ensuring joint supervision from at least two prominent international universities and secondments with industrial partners. The training programme provides a comprehensive toolbox of cutting-edge knowledge and transferable skills, maximizing future employability in research, digital technologies, and the agricultural sector.

Research topics span the convergence of advanced data science and the Internet of Robotic Things (IoRT) to foster sustainable agriculture and efficient low-input practices. Areas include advanced database management systems, artificial intelligence, edge-fog-cloud architectures, data analysis, precision farming, digital twins, deep learning, visual sensors, acoustic signal analysis, GHG emission optimization, autonomous robots, and large language models for agricultural data integration.

Financial support is exceptional, with a highly competitive employment package for the full 36-month duration. This includes a generous living allowance, mobility allowance for relocation and travel, and a family allowance for researchers with family obligations.
