About this position

We will be hiring a hashtag#PhD student in the following months, to help us develop new multivariate algorithms based on ASCA capable of efficiently managing massive data with spatio-temporal components, often represented as time series of images. This is part of the MuSTARD project. The PhD will be funded for 4 years and will most likely start at the beginning of 2025. Gross salary (established by Spanish law) is 1.533 €/month during the first year and 1.950€/month the following years. Take a look at the living cost estimates in Granada at https://lnkd.in/duqUSRYa.Please, note Granada is one of the most renown university cities in Spain, with over 51K undergraduate and postgraduate students for a total population of 230K people. More information about the university at https://www.ugr.es/enDo not hesitate to DM me if interested!…more I am thrilled to share that in the next months, we will be starting our new national project in hashtag#DataScience: Multi-scale Spatio-Temporal Analysis of Research Data (MuSTARD) MuSTARD is led by a team of computational specialists in four different domains: precision and molecular medicine, climate change, volcano-seismic activity, and urban mobility models for smart cities. These application domains represent top challenges in our society, with research breakthroughs most often published in flagship journals. They also share several characteristics: they require some form of statistical support to address scientific questions, they need powerful visualizations for Big Data mining, and they share a complex Spatio-Temporal structure at different resolution scales. Notably, these three characteristics have been addressed separately in computational science, but not (that we are aware of) in a single, unified framework. MuSTARD computational framework will be based on ANOVA Simultaneous Component Analysis (hashtag#ASCA). ASCA is a powerful tool that combines ANOVA inference with multivariate matrix factorization and visualization. Yet, incorporating Spatio-Temporal and massive information into an ASCA model is a relevant computational challenge. I am very happy to share the leadership of this project with my colleague Luz Garcia, and count on a wonderful group of researchers in the team: Sonia Mota Fernandez, Samuel Morillas Gómez, Diego Madariaga Román, Raquel Conde Muiño, Carolina Gómez, Luca D'Auria and of course Michael Sorochan Armstrong, who is already looking for our MuSTARD outfit.…more
