About this position
The University of Luxembourg invites applications for doctoral researcher positions in Quantum Information Theory within the Nanomagnetism group led by Professor Andreas Michels. This international research university, renowned for its multilingual and interdisciplinary environment, offers a vibrant academic setting through its Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM). The successful candidates will engage in cutting-edge research exploring the relationship between intrinsic and collective magnetic properties in ordered and disordered nanoparticle assemblies, focusing on both equilibrium and dynamic behaviors. The project emphasizes the use of small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) to study static spin structures and dynamic magnetization responses, contributing to a deeper understanding of magnetization dynamics, thermal transport, and the impact of magnetism on various material properties.
This theory-driven project combines analytical calculations and numerical simulations of classical spin systems. Candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate with the group of Professor Hamid Kachkachi at the University of Perpignan, and benefit from travel funds for attending schools, conferences, and potential extended research stays abroad. The research is motivated by the significant applications of magnetic nanoparticles in medicine, biology, chemistry, and nanotechnology, and aims to address fundamental questions about the preservation of nanoscale properties in macroscopic assemblies.
Applicants should hold a Master's degree in physics or materials science, ideally with a focus on condensed-matter physics and magnetism. Experience with analytical and numerical methods is essential. Language proficiency at least at the B2 level in the thesis language is required. The University of Luxembourg offers a modern, dynamic, and inclusive environment, with high-quality equipment and strong ties to industry and European institutions.
The position is a fixed-term contract for 36 months (extendable up to 48 months), with a yearly gross salary of EUR 41,976. The application package should include a two-page CV, BS and MS certificates, a one-page cover letter, and contact details for up to three referees, all compiled into a single PDF. Applications must be submitted online via the university's HR system; email applications will not be considered. Early applications are encouraged as review begins upon receipt.
For further information, prospective candidates may contact Professor Andreas Michels ([email protected]) or Professor Hamid Kachkachi ([email protected]). The University of Luxembourg is committed to diversity and encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds.
