About this position
Chalmers University of Technology invites applications for a fully funded PhD position focused on perovskite materials for energy and chemical processes. The research aims to develop novel perovskite oxide materials with thermochemical properties tailored for efficient energy conversion and production of base chemicals such as hydrogen, carbon monoxide, methanol, and ethylene. The project is multidisciplinary, combining advanced evaluation techniques, data mining, and generative machine learning models to create an active learning cycle for identifying promising materials. Successful candidates will synthesize, characterize, and evaluate these materials in laboratory settings, contributing to the advancement of sustainable and efficient production technologies.
The position is based at the Division of Energy Technology, renowned for its research in sustainable energy systems and conversion technologies. The division collaborates nationally and internationally to drive the transition toward carbon-neutral energy and industry, offering a dynamic and inspiring environment in Gothenburg, Sweden. The project is funded by the Swedish Research Council and is part of the broader initiative to develop environmentally friendly technologies and implement solutions for industry and society.
Applicants must hold a relevant Master's degree (or a 4-year Bachelor's degree for non-Swedish applicants) in chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, engineering physics, material science, or thermal engineering. Excellent English communication skills, motivation for research, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential. Experience in laboratory work (material synthesis, characterization, testing), machine learning for material applications, and ab-initio or DFT calculations are highly valued. Physical presence throughout the study period and a valid residence permit by the start date are required.
The doctoral position is fully funded, offering a starting salary of 34,550 SEK per month (from May 25, 2025), with all employee benefits. The appointment is for four years, extendable to five years with 20% institutional duties such as teaching. Chalmers provides a supportive environment, including Swedish language courses, generous parental leave, subsidized day care, and healthcare. The university is committed to gender balance, equality, and inclusion, with initiatives like GENIE for gender equality and excellence.
