About this position

[£20,780 annual maintenance grant, full coverage of PhD programme fees, HE teacher training and practice, £700 per year GTF allowance from Year 2, and Conference Support Scheme. Stipend amount subject to change.]

The University of Liverpool Management School is offering four-year fully funded Graduate Teaching Fellowships (GTFs) for students commencing a Management PhD in October 2026. These fellowships provide comprehensive financial support, including a £20,780 annual maintenance grant, full coverage of PhD programme fees, and a structured teacher training programme. GTF recipients will gain valuable experience in higher education teaching alongside their doctoral research, making this an ideal opportunity for those seeking an academic career.

During the first year, fellows will complete a short teacher training programme, earning a formal higher education teaching qualification and developing key pedagogical skills through mentored classroom involvement. In subsequent years, students will continue their doctoral research while engaging in a fixed number of teaching hours, further enhancing their academic and professional development.

Applicants should hold a UK master’s degree or international equivalent in a business and management discipline, preferably at merit or above. A strong research proposal is required, with potential topics including Operations and Supply Chain Management, Transport and Logistics, Agri-food Supply Chains, Sustainable Operations, Strategy, International Business, Entrepreneurship, Work Organisation, Leadership, and Diversity and Inclusion. The programme is open to both UK and international applicants, with additional support such as a £700 per year GTF allowance (from Year 2) and access to the Conference Support Scheme.

To apply, candidates must prepare a research proposal, academic transcripts, degree certificates, a personal statement (including ‘ULMS-GTF-2026 studentship’), a CV, and contact details for two referees. English language certificates and passport details are required for international applicants. Applications are submitted online via the University of Liverpool portal, selecting 'Management Studies – Doctor in Philosophy (PhD)' and specifying 'ULMS-GTF-2026' as the funding source. The application deadline is 15 April 2026 at 5pm UK time.

This opportunity is not compatible with other studentships such as those from the North West Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership or the China Scholarship Council. For further information or to discuss entry requirements, applicants are encouraged to contact the Management School’s Postgraduate Research Team.
