About this position

The National University of Singapore (NUS) Immersive Reality Lab, led by Associate Professor Eng Tat Khoo, is offering a fully funded PhD position in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). Research Focus Areas:

  • Immersive Reality (VR/AR/MR): High-fidelity rendering, spatial computing, and HCI modeling for next-generation immersive systems.
  • Generative AI: Development of controllable and physically consistent generative models for human motion and 3D scene generation, emphasizing interaction-aware intelligence.
  • Medical Imaging & Robotic Surgery AI: Multimodal medical AI for surgical understanding, perception, robotic assistance, and intelligent intraoperative decision support.

The lab operates at the intersection of immersive systems, artificial intelligence, and translational applications in healthcare and HCI, providing a vibrant research environment and opportunities for collaboration with the NUS Guangzhou Research Translation and Innovation Institute (GRTII).

Funding: The NUS – GRTII PhD Scholarship offers full tuition coverage for 4 years, a monthly stipend of up to S$3,800 before the PhD Qualifying Examination (PQE) and up to S$4,300 after passing PQE, and a 2-year service bond in Huangpu District, Guangzhou after graduation. The scholarship also supports research visits and collaborations with GRTII.

Eligibility: Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or related fields, with strong programming and systems development skills and demonstrated research potential (publications preferred). English proficiency may be required for international students.
